About John Middleton, Lord Clermont
On 24th February/17th March 1708 he, being then a Colonel, and his brother, Captain Charles Middleton, accompanied King James in the attempted expedition to Scotland, but were captured on board the Salisbury by Admiral Byng, and were sent prisoners to the Tower, but were afterwards released on parole, and in June 1713, as the result of the Peace of Utrecht, were allowed to return to France.

Died unmarried.
