Notes
Captain Simon Miller was "gentleman Justice" of Essex County 1747-50 (Will Book 8, pp. 30, 223, 303, 313, 423). He was candidate for Burgess from Essex County 1741 (Deed Book, 1738-42, p. 312). Margaret Miller was daughter of John Miller, of Essex County, whose will was proved in Essex County, December 20, 1743. He mentions her in his will as "daughter Margaret Howard," evidently an error in spelling. John Miller was son of Captain Simon Miller and is mentioned in the latter's will proved in Old Rappahannock County, May 2, 1684.

William Miller’s brother John Miller (1673 – 1743) (father of Isabella above) became the guardian of Benjamin Miller. The records of this guardianship show that John Miller utilized the property of Benjamin Miller. Whether or not the orphaned Benjamin Miller and his siblings lived with their uncle John Miller is unknown at this time. Related to his use of young Benjamin Miller’s property, John Miller owed money to the estate of Benjamin Miller when he died at a young age. Those records also show involvement of Daniel Gaines, and thus an ongoing relationship between the Gaines family and the Miller family.
