About John Morris, of New Haven
John Morris, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Morris, was baptized on March 8, 1646 and died December 10, 1711 at the age of 65. On August 12, 1669, he married Hannah Bishop, the daughter of James Bishop and Mary Lewen. They had 7 children: Mary, Hannah, Mary, Elizabeth, Thomas, Abigail and Desire.[1]
There has been some confusion because there was another John Morris, possibly his cousin, living in New Haven at about the same time. See John Morris, who married Ann, and later Elizabeth Harrison, the widow of Henry Lines and Thomas Lampson. This John Morris later moved to Newark, New Jersey, and died there in 1675.[2]
Lucy Ann (Morris) Carhart’s “Genealogy of the Morris Family” (1911, New York, The A. S. Barnes Company), on pages 74 & 75, combines these two John Morris’s into one man with three wives.

Life Sketch
CAUTION: THIS RECORD BELONGS TO JOHN MORRIS of NEW HAVEN and NOT to JOHN MORRIS of NEWARK, N.J. Neither was A BIGAMIST. This man became a combined person, with a man 20 years younger than he tand the wrong alleged wife WATCH OUT FOR SOURCES THAT ARE MIXING THESE FAMILIES, but HISTORICAL RECORDS AND LOGIC SHOW THE DIFFERENCES. There was a John Morris, b. abt 1623 who died at N. J., 1675 and a John Morris of New Haven who died 1711 and they were different people married to different women, dying in different colonies!!! This note from Diane Radnor may help.

In the references, there is this statement:
John Morris, who died 1675 in Newark, New Jersey, may have been the nephew of Thomas Morris. He was married twice, first to Ann ---, who died December 4, 1664. He later married Elizabeth Harrison, the daughter of Richard Harrison and widow of Henry Lines and Thomas Lampson. He and Elizabeth had two sons, John and Philip. [1]
There has been some confusion because there was another John Morris (possibly his cousin) who was born 1646 and died in 1711, son of Thomas.

John has a christening record in New Haven Vital Records. See attached under Sources. He is appears to be the second John born to this family, but it is possible that both baptism dates belong to this John. Throughout the years, different researchers have interpreted the March 1645 and 1646 records differently.
John has a marriage record in New Haven 12 August 1669 to Hannah Bishop. See attached under sources. John would have been about 23 years old.
Previous to this marriage record, there are other records in this same collection for a man named John Morris, who appears to be older and may have been related to this John's father Thomas Morris. Hopefully we have sorted these out correctly.
There is a death record for a daughter of John Morris, no name given, in 1670, no month, no day.
Next is a birth record for Hannah Morris, daughter of John Morris, 10 August 1671.
Then Mary Morris, daughter of John Morris, born 9 September 1673, followed by Elizabeth Morris, year 1675, no month or day given, and finally a son, Thomas Morris, born 2 April 1679.
Finally two more daughters, Abigail and Desyer.
He has an actual headstone that indicates he died 10 December 1711, age 65, which fits nicely with his christening year.
