JOHN MUIR OF CASSINCARRIE

It has been suggested that John Mure of Cassencarrie here treated may be the same person as John Myhr but proof is wanting.

According to Sir William Mure of Rowallan, John Muir of Cassencarrie is the son of Sir John Muir of Rowallan and his wife Jonet Cunningham. The Historie and Descent of the House of Rowallane, p. 82 John Muir, son of John Muir of Rowallan, is noticed on 13 November 1574, in the witness list of a charter issued by his elder brother William. 22 January 1593: Charter by which Joannis Mure de Cassincarie and his wife Joneta Mure confirm that the have given certain lands to Alexandri Mure, their eldest son and apparent heir, and his wife Helene McClellane. Helene is said to be the daughter of Gulielmi McClellane of Balmangane. The lands conveyed to Alexandri and Helen, which were to be held by them in conjunct fee and liferent, were the one merk land of Kers with the fishing thereof, the twenty shilling land of Markwilliame, and the one merk land of Chapelmark, all in the parish of Kirkmabreck and Stewartry of Kirkcudbright. Joannis Mure de Cassincarie and his wife Joneta Mure also gave the four merk land of Cassincarie and other lands to their son Alexandri, excepting a free tenement in Cassincarie, with the tower and mills of the same, which Joannis Mure de Cassincarie reserved to himself. Alexandri Mure died before 25, December 1600, the date upon which a charter of confirmation was issued under the Great Seal of Scotland. Registrum Magni Sigilli Regum Scotorum.
