JEAN MURE

Jean Mure is the daughter of John Mure of Rowallan and his wife Marion Cunningham. She is not mentioned by name in Sir William Mure of Rowallan's Historie, where John and his wife are said to have had a daughter who was married first to the Laird of Collellane, and second to the Laird of Dundonald, Historie, pp. 82-83 but her father, in his last will and testament dated 7 April 1591, acknowledged a debt of eighty merks that he owed to his son-in-law John Wallace of Dundonald. 1575: Letter of reversion by Adam Cunningham of Clolynau and Jean Mure his wife to William Earl of Glencairn, by which on payment being made to them within the parish church of Kilmaurs of 1000 merks, they oblige them to reconvey to the Earl the 4 merk land of Shaw, and 14 shilling land of Carmelwood lying in the barony of Kilmaurs. 7 November 1783: Letter of reversion by Adam Cunningham of Clolynau to James Earl of Glencairn by which on payment being made by the Earl to the said Adam Cunningham within the church of Kilmaurs of 3000 merks, he obliges him to reconvey to the Earl the 33 shilling 4 penny land of Langmuir, the 39/- land of Alton and others (20/- land of Gersmailsyde, 33/4 land of Titwood, 6/8 worth of land called Arnott's Boddem in which he and his wife Jean Mure were infeft by the Earl in January 1582) lying in the barony of Kilmaurs.
