About John Myers

~~ NOTE: ~~

Johannes' wife, Susannah Eichenberg Myers', Memorial has been 'Merged' (Contributor believes my Michael Myers line is their Bashi Myers line). Johannes Peter Myers is of the 'Michael Myers' line. Thus creating a 'divided' Family Line.....

From the book, "Myers and Fishburn Families", 1969 by Vera Fishburn Myers Weaver and Alvin L. Weaver:

Many Mayer-Meyer names appear on the records in Wurtemburg, Germany. From some of the early history of that Province we have learned that one 'Melchoir' Meyer (Myers), who was born 1495, was named Military Chief of the Free Imperial City of Ulm. Later mention of the Mayer-Meyer names indicates that many men of that name, or a spelling not too different, were military men. The services they gave must have been of some value for Emperor Maximilian granted the Mayer family it's "Coat of Arms" in 1570.

  • ** My Myers family descends of the 'Bretheren Faith'...It has been called to my attention the Mennonites do not enter into the Military ***

The following book was written and published in 1955 which, also, contains the Genealogy of Eichenberg and 'Myers'.

"A History and Genealogy of Peter Eichenberg Family", compiled by Charles S. Ikenberry and W. Lewis Eikenberry; Published by Charles S. and Margaret Ikenberry, printed by Church Center Press, 'Myerstown, PA'; copyright 1955 Charles S. Ikenberry, Daleville, VA

PART I Susannah Eichenberg Myers Family—1759-1846 Martiniss Eichenberg, European Progenitor of the Eichenberg Family in the U. S. A.

1d. Peter Eichenberg, Immigrant Father from Europe 1731-1812. 2a. Susannah Eichenberg was born Nov. 11, 1759, and was married to Johannes Myers on Mar. 23, 1779, at the age of 19 yrs. There is yet in the possession of her descendants "grandfather clock" which is reported to have been a wedding gift from her father and mother, Peter and Fronica Eichenberg. It is still running and keeping good time. (A picture of this clock is in this book on page 21). They set up their home in Lancaster C0,, Pa. and continued in Lancaster County, Pa residence there as long as Johannes lived. His will, proven in 1823, completes the disposition of an estate of 6000 pounds or probably approximately $30,000, indicating considerable financial success.

The following letter to Peter Eichenberg and wife from Johannes and Susannah Myer, after the parents had moved to Va., shows a close filial tie and a deep religious background. The letter has been kept safely in the old home of Samuel Ikenberry in Franklin C0,, Va. It is written in 'German' and the contents were not understood until a recent translation.

Lancaster County, Pa. the 3rd, October 1803.

My love to you father and mother Peter Eichenberg and Fronica Eichenberg and all your children and grandchildren. Further to let you know that we are all in good health at this time and our children, nine sons and one daughter, are still living and none of them married at present. Would like to see you once more if possible but the way is long and hard. We send our love to you all, and wish you the peace of God and want to meet you in eternity. Also the best love from the old brother Jacob Stoll and David Kempfer and Veldy Rand and Martin Myer. More greetings of love from brothers and sisters. The members are well, only old brother Anthony Dornbach died and was buried today. We hope that these lines will find you well. So much from your children.

Johannes Myers and Susannah Myers and Children.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following will of Johannes Myers is a reflection of his thrift.
The names of his eleven children are also here established. (In Johannes' letter to his Father and Mother-in-law he quoted 9 sons and 1 daughter (Susannah Myers Royer... Isaac was born after 1803).
Will of Johannes Myers (abstract) Bk. 0, V. 1. Pg. 49‘. Lancaster Co., Pa., Records.
Names: Wife, Susannah, "three youngest children, namely Abraham, Susanna and Isaac, 500 pounds each. There remains sum of 500 pounds payable to son Henry. I give and bequeath unto my eight children, namely, John, David, Samuel, Jacob, Christian, Abraham, Susanna, Isaac and their heirs, share and share alike. The reason I exclude my three sons, Peter, George and Henry from any inheritance in this my last will, is because I advanced them their full shares and portions in my estate by conveying lands to them, in my lifetime."
Executors, Peter Myers of Leacock Twp.; George Myers, Earl Twp.; David Myers, Manheim Twp. Date of Will, Feb. 22, 1822. Witnesses, John Myers, Jr. and Henry Myers. Will proven Oct. 20, 1823.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The move to Virginia would have been down the Shenandoah Valley on the great Wagon Road. They no doubt moved in one of the huge Conestoga wagons, made in Lancaster County. The trip was approximately 400 miles. Peter and Fronica were accompanied by five of their six children : John (whom did not go to OH.. as he is 'buried' in VA and His 'Brother' wrote him a letter from OH to VA), Peter, Jr., Henrich, Elizabeth, and Faronica. Their daughter Susannah had married Johannes Myers in Pennsylvania and remained behind. She was to write later "Would like to see you once more if possible but the way is long and hard."

"I have walked the land in the footsteps of my fathers. Back in time to where the first one trod, and stopped, saw sky, felt wind, bent to touch Mother Earth.....and called this "Home." This mountain. This pine and hemlock, oak and poplar. Laurel, wild, and rhododendron. Home and mountain. Father, mother. Grow, too the sons and daughters. To walk the old paths. To look back in pride in honored heritage. To hear its laughter and its song. To grow, to stand and be themselves, one day remembered. I have walked the land in the footsteps of all my fathers. I saw yesterday and now look to tomorrow." (Earl Hamner)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John Myers Sr., lived in Earl Township, Lancaster County, PA. He was a farmer. He and his wife Susanna had 11 children; 10 sons and one daughter.
He was the fourth generation of this Myers family to live in Earl Towhship. In 1827 his children were living in:
Peter Myers of Leacock Township, Lancaster County, PA
George Myers of Earl Township, Lancaster County, PA He is incorrectly linked to a Rebecca Graybill as daughter of Abraham since Abraham only had a daughter named Margaret. Please see memorial 100810509. Abraham's will can be viewed as Will Book K Vol 1 Page 481 showing that this is true.
Henry Myers of Earl Township, Lancaster County, PA
John Myers Jr. of Salisbury Township, Lancaster, PA (Justice of the Peace)
David Myers of Manheim Township, Lancaster County (later moved to Union County, PA
Samuel Myers of Leacock Township, Lancaster County (Minister, later moved to Wayne County, Ohio)
Christian Myers of East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County (Judge, later moved to Clarion County, PA, died in Philadelphia, PA). He invested in land with a partnership in Clarion, PA. This partnership was instrumental in the development of an Iron Furnace in Clarion which likely caused several family members to move there. His nephew, Abner and his niece Eliza Miller's children also moved out there due to the opportunity of employment
Abraham Myers of Manheim Township, Lancaster County (later moved to Warwick Township, Lancaster Township, PA)
Isaac of Earl Township, Lancaster County (later moved to Kelly Township, Union County, PA)
Susanna married to Jacob Royer, East Buffalo Township, Union County, PA.
Sometime after his death his widow Susanna moved to Union County and lived with her daughter Susanna Royer. Sometime after 1827 her sons David and Isaac also moved to Union County.
