Disambiguation

This John Newhall had a cousin John Newhall, only a few years younger, who also lived in Lynn. This was as confusing to the vital record keepers then as it is now. That man is called, consistently, John Jr. in the Lynn records (the younger cousin), while this man, the older cousin,.is called John, Sr. Try not to confuse them.

From The Newhall Family of Lynn, pages 13–14:

The 4th of Feb'y, 1711-12, administration at large on the estate of John’s son Joseph Newhall was granted to him, he signing the bond as John Newhall So., with Joseph Jacobs and Nathaniel Hathorne as sureties; and he presented the Inventory 7th Feb'y, 1712. Among the charges was one “To Sarah Newhall for mourning 9£.” [1]
