About John Philip Ohlinger
DAR Ancestor #: A086113
m2. 21 Feb 1743 in Hill Lutheran Church, North Anville, Lebanon Co. PA, USA. spouse2, Juliana Umberger
He arrived in America Oct 12, 1741 at the port of Philadelphia aboard the ship Friendship and took his oath of Naturalization August 8, 1762, recorded Sep 24, 1762, while he was a resident of Lancaster County, PA.
John Philip is listed on three different rosters, written by three different clerks of the ship Friendship. His name is recorded as (1) Philip Olinger age 20 (2) Philip Olinger, (3) Joh Phillip Olinger. This is recorded in Pennsylvania German Pioneers, pgs. 307-310 , published 1934 by the Pennsylvania German Society. His name also appears as John Philip Oliger in Rupp's Thirty Thousand Immigrants 1727-1776, pg 149 year 1741.
It is almost certain that John Philip is originally of Dutch origin and lived in Germany before migrating to America. In his Last Will and Testament he instructs his son Jacob to insure that his grandson is taught to read and write Dutch and English.
John Philip arrived with a Hans Jorg (Jurg) Olinger (Ollinger) age 35. Possibly his brother? According to the Marriage Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever John Philip Holinger married Juliana Umberger on Feb 2, 1744 in Hill Church, Lebanon County, PA.
