John "Jackie" Simmons Parsons was born about 1802 in North Carolina. He was the son of John and Mary Simmons Parsons. John Parsons married Rebecca Pennington. He drowned at the age of 55 on 5 February 1857 while attempting to cross a river. His wife Rebecca was the informant for the death record. She reported that he was the son of John and Mary Parsons, that he was age 55, and that he was born in North Carolina. His occupation on the death record is given as "farmer."

David Parsons and his family went to Missouri following his father-in-law, John Davis Sage.
Some of his children were born there.
However, he was not satisfied and returned to Lee Co., VA some years later.
