About “Big John” Pre. John Peachey
- "Big John" - he weighed over 300 lbs - His wife afraid his pants might fall down used material to fashion a suspender - the beginning? of 1 suspender Amish - Ordained preacher in 1874. He was a most upright, generous and kind citizen. For 24 years he ministered to the spiritual needs of the Peachey brethren. For about two years he has not been in active service. Having had a parlytic stroke, he suffered much but through all has been patient and uncomplaining. - John was suffering from a stroke and being cared for by his wife Sarah. One day she walked through the apple orchard toward the farm where Willard & Esther now live, and suffered a heart attack and died. - May 15, 1897, in Menno Twp., Mifflin Co., Pa., John Peachey, aged 68 years, 7 months and 5 days. Bro. Peachey was a minister many years. (HoT June 1897)
