About John H. Pendleton, Sr.
A Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA (Soldier). DAR Ancestor # A088362
John and two of his brothers were Minute Men from Amherst County, VA.
John married Sally Banks, daughter of Linn "Sam" Banks and Sarah Proctor after the war, in Amherst County on January 24, 1786. Their marriage is recorded in the marriage bonds of Amherst Co 1763-1800 page 59.
John and his wife Sally moved from Virginia to Kentucky. Once source I read stated they and their children were "captured by Indians and never heard of again". However, there is not a whisper of this account in family stories, although there are other stories about Indian encounters. More reliable sources indicate both John and Sally remained in Lincoln, KY until the end of their days. Certainly, my great-grandfather, "Doc" Micajah Pendleton, one of their sons, was born there and grew up to be a practicing physician in Ky and Missouri.
