John Philip Pendleton

John and his younger brother Philip emigrated to the County of Amherst, settling on the eastern slope of the Tobacco Row Mountain. He married Mary Tinsley, and they had 13 children, eight boys and five girls. He was buried in the old Pendleton burial ground, on a farm that passed out of the family. His son, William, married Elizabeth Tinsley, his cousin, and daughter of Edward Tinsley. William and Elizabeth's six sons were listed as Minute Men of Amherst County, ordered into service on June 21, 1781. Names, Benjamin, John, Richard, Edmund, Reuben and William. After the war, Benjamin was Pensioned and moved to Kentucky. John and Edmund also moved to Kentucky, and Edmund later moved to Tennessee.
