John Lewis Persons (Pearson)

May 10,, 1770:: John Lewis is born in Reading,, Vermont. He is the 7th of 10 children born to Samuel Pearson and Bridget Gray,, 3 boys and 7 girls.

Xxxxx,, Xxxx:: John Persons marries Rebecca Cady. They would go on to have 6 children,, 2 boys and 4 girls.

1810 United States Census,, Reading:: Lists John L. Pearsons as Head of household totalling 10 persons,, consisting of 3 males and 7 females.

Mar. 14,, 1822:: John Persons dies at the age of 52 yrs. His grave marker states his age as AE47,, his birth year being 1775. For many reasons,, this seems to be incorrect. The most obvious one would be that John had a sister (Lucy) born on Mar. 08,, 1775. His birth could not come 2 mths later. To suggest Lucy’s’ b.d. to be incorrect,, would seem to be a bit of a stretch. The structure of the family is quite well known. Samuel Pearson and Bridget Grey have a large family,, consisting of 10 children. Starting in 1759,, they’re 1rst 4 children were born 2 yrs. apart. No. 5 (Chloe) came along the following year,, in 1766. After that,, the next 5 children were again all born 2 yrs. apart,,, with Lucy being the youngest born,, in 1775. John was the 7th child,, born in 1770. Hence,, for whatever reason,, the grave marker is wrong. John is laid to rest at Sheddsville Cemetery and has a Memorial on the FindaGrave site,, No. 134599351.
