Biography

John Phelps was born on September 27, 1730 in Hebron, Connecticut, to John Phelps, Sr. (b. 1703) and Anna (Hosford) Phelps.[1]

John served in the Revolutionary War, in the 4th Connecticut Regiment under Col. John Durkee and in Capt. Hinman's Company, from 1777 to 1780 (discharged 14 Mar 1780), and was promoted to Sargent on August 27, 1778.[1] He also served under General Sullivan at New York.[1]

John Phelps and Deborah Dewey married on January 16, 1755 in Lebanon, Connecticut.[1] The couple had several known children, all born in Hebron, including Anna (Phelps) Filer, John Phelps, Obadiah, Jared Phelps, Norman Phelps, Benjamin Phelps, Dudley Phelps, Keziah Phelps, and Sarah Phelps.[1]

John passed away in Hebron.[1]
