John Redden Martin was born on January 21, 1847 in Nevils, Bulloch County, Georgia, son of John M Martin (1802-1884) and Mary (Rimes) Martin (1807-1869).
He is the brother of Elijah Harmon; Elizabeth A; James H; Julia; Thomas E; Sarah; Lavenia 'Elmira'; Mary Amanda; Hester John and Charles Jones Martin.
John R. Martin served during the Civil War in the Confederate regiment Company E, 5th Georgia Militia (a).
Farming was John's work. On March 16, 1870, John R. Martin married Mary Ann Smith (1851-1892) in Bulloch County, GA. They were the parents of 9 children including Mary 'Ellen' (1871); Lillie L. (1874); William "Willie" Julian (1877); Unicy L (1879); twins Amanda and Idona A. (1882); Lila Mae (1885); Eliza J. (1887) and Mollie J. (1892) Martin. On Oct 21, 1892, Mary Ann passed away.
On Feb 12, 1893, John married Jane "Janie" E. Rowell (1853-1907) in Bulloch County, Ga. They were the parents of one daughter, Lizzie Martin (1894). John and Janie were later divorced.
On Oct 28, 1900 (a), he married Lillie Harville (1878-1971). They had 8 children including Ketus (1903), Pearl (1904), John Lee (1905), John Reddin (1907), Lillie (1910), Cleo (1912), Thelma (1914) and Floyd (1916) Martin. By 1921, John had been married 3 times and had 18 children.
On Jan. 11, 1921, farmer John Redden Martin, age 72, died of heart disease in Statesboro, Bulloch County, GA. Signed informant was William Miller of Statesboro, GA. Arrangements were with Statesboro Buggy & Wagon Co. On Jan 12, burial was in Martin Cemetery, near Nevils (2 miles south), Bulloch Co. GA.
