A John William Richardson died age 1yr on March 1 1866, and is buried at Leopold Cemetery March 1 1866, LPD-COE-PB-807-01. Not this John William.

FIRST MARRIAGE
John William Richardson married in 1881 to Sarah Jane Redgen [also Sarah Ann] daughter of a neighbour to James Robert and Eliza, in the same year James Robert died. At James Robert's Coronial inquiry, a witness, James Redgen, said his daughter had married John William, youngest son of James Robert so they were married before the death of James Robert. Marriage records confirm this. John was 26 yrs old.

John was a farmer at Kensington, now Leopold, for many years and his children were born there. When his sons enlisted for the 1st AIF, John was at Marcus (now Marcus Hill on the Bellarine Hwy), close to Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale. He was abt 60 yrs old so probably retired.

During the war, John moved to Ocean Grove, where his son Oscar (Ern) died.

SECOND MARRIAGE
Sarah Ann died 1888, and John remarried to Rosa Louisa Lander/Lauder in 1888, and had several more children. The death notices for Ormond, son of John and Rosa, who died 1917 in a London hospital in WW1, list all of Ormond's siblings. The brother named 'Ern', is Oscar Ernest who died of war injuries after returning home.

John - married Sarah Regen. Their children were Horace, Beatrice and Oscar. Horace - wife Ethel, children Benie, Gordon, adopted son Alan. [Benie = Albenia] Beatrice - husband Mick Canavan, children Adeline, Francis and 2 others. Oscar - wife Kitty Lynch, children Jack, Ormond, Dorothy.

Sarah died and John subsequently married Rosa Louise Lander from Sutherland's Creek near Geelong. They settled in Leopold, to the south-east of Geelong and had 4 daughters and 3 sons.

Evelyn - unmarried. Died 1959 of cancer aged 67. Arthur - wife Fanny, 2 daughters Amy and Joyce. Arthur, Fanny and Amy all dead. Olive - husband Les Hughes (dec.), daughter Gwen, son William. Olive is still alive at the age of 92 and lives in a nursing home in Melbourne. Gwen and Bill both reside in Melbourne. Ernest - wife Vera - beth dec., son Max, daughter Judith, both live in Melbourne. Ern lived to the age of 88. Doris - husband Ern Spriggins - both dec., - sons Laurie and Ken Laurie lives in Barwon Heads, Ken in Tasmania. Doris lived to 86.

John is buried at Leopold (Kensington) Cemetery LPD-MET-IA-807-32, Reg. No. 460449, on 10 Nov 1947. John's first wife Sarah, is buried in the next grave with Elsie (age 7yrs, buried 1 Jan 1891) and Edith (b. 1892, d. 1960 St Kilda Vic., buried 29 Dec 1959, daughter of John and Rosa).

An infant, Richard Richardson, was buried in the next grave to John William, on 27 Dec 1901. He was 1 yr old. John and Rosa had a gap in known births between 1898 and 1905. "Rose" Richardson is in the same grave and her details match Rosa Louisa, so we should imagine that Richard is probably the son of John William and Rosa.

John William's family has 3 graves at Leopold/Kensington Cemetery. John is in #32, and his two wives are in #30 and #31 with assorted children, not necessarily their own. They are the only Richardson family in the Methodist section.
