John Roberts, Sr., of Nansemond County

Biography

John Roberts, Sr married Jane Bracewell about 1680, daughter of Robert Bracewell. She was the widow 1st of Robert Stokes and 2nd of Robert Eley, Jr.

Known children

1. John Roberts Jr. b: 1684 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.
2. Thomas Roberts b: AFT 1685 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Married Mary.
3. Jane Roberts b: AFT 1686 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Married Robert Scott.

John Roberts evidently lived in Nansemond County as he does not appear in Isle of Wight records. He died before 4 October 1706, when his son John Roberts mentioned him as deceased in a deed of gift of property to his brother Thomas, part of 1450 acres on the western branch of Nansemond.

Jane; (Braswell;) Stokes was married to Robert2 Eley II only about three years. Her only child by him seems to be ROBERT3 ELEY III. (See later) Her third marriage to John Roberts was be- fore July 20, 1680. John Roberts evidently lived in Nansemond as he does not appear in the Isle of Wight records. The sons of Jane; and John Roberts were: JOHN and THOMAS ROBERTS.
