John married Edith "Edy" Matilda (Roark) Ross circa 1865 in Carroll County, AR, USA. Together they had the following children:
Albert H. Ross; Samuel D. Ross; Phoebe Mahala (Ross) Potts; William M. Ross; Aetha L. Ross; Susan Catherine Ross; Ellen Charlotte Ross; Sarah Elizabeth (Ross) Long.
John married Eudora Lee "Dora" (Jones) Ross in 1884 in Harrison, AR, USA. Together they had the following children: Oza Berta M. (Ross) Bentley; Lena Ethel (Ross) Buell; James Byrd S. Ross; J. Golden Ross; James Cornelus Ross; Earl D. Ross.
He died on April 27, 1935 in Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas, United States.
"On the 22nd of August, 1905, I met Mr. John C. Ross in the Times office, Harrison, Ark., where he related to me an interesting story of a panther. Mr. Ross is an old timer of northwest Arkansas and lived many years in Carroll County ... ".

JOHN C. ROSS, 94, SUCCUMBS HERE - Was One of Five Remaining Confederate Veterans In County - From Saturday’s Daily - John C. Ross, aged 94 years, one of the five remaining Confederate veterans in Boone county, and former business man, died this morning at his house on north Walnut street. His death was due mostly to his advanced age. Mr. Ross had been a Mason since he was 21 years of age and a member of the M. E. Church South for 67 years. He was a member of the Ross Ruble Camp, Boone county organization of Confederate veterans. Mr. Ross took part in a number of battles during the war. After the war ended, Mr. Ross returned to Boone county and farmed for a number of years, later establishing a grocery store in Harrison which he operated until a few years ago when he retired from business. Mr. Ross was born October 4, 1840 in Lincoln county, Tenn. He came to Arkansas in 1857, and was married at the age of 24 to Matilda Rourk. To this union eight children wee born, five of whom survived. Mrs. Ross died June 12, 1883. He was married to Sarah James, October 28, 1884, and two children were born to this union, both of whom survived. Mrs. Ross died May 4, 1929. Mr. Ross is survived by the following children: Mrs. Ella Bailey of Harrison, Sam Ross of Alpena, Mahaley Potts of Frederick, Okla., W. M. Ross of Lubbock, Texas, Sarah Long of Okemah, Okla., Mrs. Berlie Bentley of Huntsville and Byrd Ross of Tulsa, Okla. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the M. E. Church, South by the Rev. F. E. Dodson, pastor, assisted by the Rev. W. T. Nicholson of Bellefonte. Burial will be made in White church cemetery.
