OBITUARY Auto accident claims life of John Schabert. Funeral rites and burial held yesterday at New Trier. Funeral services for John Schabert, well-known Douglas farmer, were conducted Thursday morning at 9:oo in St Mary's church at New Trier and interment made in the church cemetery. Mr. Schabert passed away Monday morning in St John's hospital in Red Wing without regaining consciousness as the result of an auto accident in which he suffered head injuries. When returning to his home in a pickup truck Friday noon, his machine and a milk truck owned by Othmar Fox, and driven by his nephew, Gerald Johnson, collided about 1 1/2 miles so. East of New Trier. The impact threw the driver clear of the pickup and caused the serious injuries which resulted in death. Mr. Schabert was born in New Prague, August 26,1888 and while he was still a small child, the family moved to Wadena. As a young man he came to work in the New Trier locality. He married Miss Sophia Kneifel and the young folks moved to Glenwood Spring, Col. Shortly after they went to Devils Lake, ND where they lived several years. Their nest home was in Hastings. Tired of urban life the family moved onto a rented farm near New Trier. Several years ago, the Schaberts purchased a farmstead for their own and since then have remodeled the home, erected new outbuildings and made many noticeable improvements. Five sons and five daughters were born to Mr. & Mrs. Schabert one of the former, preceding his father in death. The others are Nic Schabert who is in the service, Ed Schabert and Marcus Schabert of New Trier; the latter with his wife reside with the parents, Arthur, Mrs. Marie Osgood, Mrs. Madlyn Gilliland, Mrs. Gertrude Williams, of San Leandro, Calif, Mrs. Adelphine Franke of So St Paul and Mrs. Leona Bauer of Vermillion. Also surviving the deceased are 3 sisters and 2 brothers who reside in the west and 18 grandchildren. Mr Schabert's tragic death has caused a pall of gloom to descend on the entire community as it is the second instance in this area within a couple of weeks in which the stricken victim has failed to regain consciousness before death after being struck down. (Notice no mention of Greg or the name of who preceded him in death, which was Frank. Also no mention of the set of twins lost in a miscarriage.
