John Ludwig "Lewis" Shuey (AKA Schuy) was born on 6 May 1755 in Bethel Township, Lebanon Co., PA. He died on 22 Jan 1839 in Augusta Co., VA. He married Anna Maria Loesch on 18 Mar 1780 in PA. John served in the local Pennsylvania Militia in the 3rd Company, 2nd Battalion, Lancaster County.
There is a large sand stone monument with a metal tablet that was erected by the Col. Thomas Hughart Chapter, D.A.R.. It says: "THIS TABLET IS DEDICATED IN HONOR OF THE REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIERS BURIED IN GLEBE CEMETERY." 4th down on list is LEWIS SHUEY.
According to the 1934 D.A.R. inventory, it reads in German: In Memory of LEWIS SHUEY Died Jan. 22, 1839 (the date is no longer legible in the photo taken 29 JUN 2011)
His kin RC took the photo and noted in the caption: "He and his family migrated from near Hamlin, Pa. in 1795 to Augusta County Virginia."
