Child of John Snelling and Frances Hele was:
John Snelling [a] b abt 1624/25, of Devonshire, England, d Nov 1672. He md Sarah abt 1655. She was b abt 1633, d aft 1677.
He came to America 1648; in Saco Maine in 1655; moved to Boston 1657; probably arrived with his uncle, Dr. William Snelling. His uncle, William, left no male descendants in America, his only son, William, having died, along with his wife and young daughter in a smallpox epidemic. Thus, most Snellings in colonial New England are believed to have descended from John Snelling.
Children of John Snelling and Sarah were:
John Snelling's widow Sarah was appointed administratrix of his estate in Suffolk County, Mass., 13 Nov. 1672.
a. It is speculated that he came to America with his uncle, Dr. William Snelling early in 1647. His father was the eldest son of Thomas Snelling, Esquire, of Plympton St. Mary, Chaddleswood, in Devonshire; Dr. William being the youngest son. His father died in 1639, and it is possible that his uncle, Dr. William perhaps served as a guardian for his deceased brother's son. John Snelling was first recorded in Saco, Maine, where he appeared in a list of freemen in 1653. He removed to Boston in 1657. His uncle, William, left no male descendants in America, his only son, William, having died, along with his wife and young daughter in a smallpox epidemic. Thus, most Snellings in colonial New England are believed to have descended from John.

1. John Snelling, born about 1625-1628, died in 1672. he married Sarah ____, still living in 1677. He was in Saco, Maine, by 1655, but removed about 1657 to Boston. He and his wife, Sarah, were baptized as adults in the Second Church of Boston, 12 July 1667. He is said to have been the youngest son of John and Frances (Hele) Snelling of Plympton St. Mary, Devonshire, baptized there 17 Jan. 1624/5 and nephew of Dr. William Snelling of Newbury and Boston. Vivian's Visitations of Devonshire, p. 694, gives the Snelling ancestry in England and the same volume reords the Hele and several other lineages. Viivian, however, states that John died before 1653. It may be that Vivian supposed he was dead because he was overseas at the time.
Is this true?
"the Snellings were ... New England Protestants who arrived in America in 1649 one step ahead of Cromwell, the bastard, because they were royalist and Cromwell had a price on their heads; ..." The Life Report: Charles Darwin Snelling
