AN OLD SETTLER DEAD
JOHN SPURGIN CAME TO SALINE COUNTY IN 1867.
At the Age of 94 Years He Died Here This Morning—Well Known in Lincoln County.
John Spurgin, one of the oldest citizens of Saline County, passed away at 9:40 o'clock last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. E. Braithwait, 129 Jewell Avenue, at the age of 94 years. The deceased was in good health until December 1, when he was attacked by a complication of diseases. Owing to his advanced age it was impossible to do anything for him in a medical way, and death came to his relief last night.
Mr. Spurgin came to Kansas and located in this county in 1867. After residing here for one year he went to Lincoln County, where he remained until twelve years ago, and at that time returned to Salina and has made his home here with his daughter ever since. His wife died in Lincoln County fourteen years ago.
Mr. Spurgin was well known in Lincoln County, but he was about 80 years of age when he returned to Salina.
The deceased is survived by seven daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Catherine Wineburg, who resides in the state of Washington; Mrs. Lizzie Holmes of West Virginia; Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Paterson of Colorado; Mrs. Patton, Caldwell, Kan.; Mrs. Hazelton of Lincoln County, and Mrs. Braithwait of Salina. The sons are J. W. Spurgin of Oklahoma, and James Spurgin of this city. No arrangements have been made for the funeral, but it is expected it will be held some time on Sunday afternoon.

Services of John Spurgin at the Christian Church.
The funeral services of John Spurgin, who died Wednesday night, will be held Sunday at 3 o'clock at the Christian Church. Rev. Shields, pastor of the church, will have charge of the services.
