About John Stanyan
John Stanyan was the son of Anthony Stanyan, glover, who came to New England in 1635 on a ship called the Planter.
In his will he takes especial pains to ensure the retention of his property in the Stanyan family. He was selectman in 1692, 1699, 1701 and1709. and representative in 1705. He was regarded by his contemporaries as a very good man, and is believed to have been a Quaker. He proposed that some of the common lands be set off to the Quakers for a parsonage, and this was done February to, 1711.
