John, son of John and Tabitha Stodder, was born in England around 1628. The family moved from England to New England arriving 1638 as John's father was granted land in Hingham, MA. in that year.

John Stodder Jr was son of John Stodder Sr and Tabitha per England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975. Christening: 30 Oct 1628 - Terling, Essex, England. Father: John Stodder Mother: Tabitha

He married Hannah Bryant, daughter of John and Mary (Lewis) Bryant in Hingham, MA on December 13, 1665. Hannah was born in Scituate, MA about 1645 and died in Hingham on November 17, 1792 at the age of 57.

John Stodder Jr. and Hannah Bryant remained in Hingham where they had ten children, all but two reaching adulthood. He died there on December 20, 1708.

Research Notes

According to page 30 of "The Stoddard Family," John STODDER/ STODDARD was the first born of John and Hannah (maiden name unknown) STODDER, the first of the STODDARD family to settle in America (1638). However, records show John Jr. and other children as children of Tabitha and John Sr. in England. Very little is know about the Hannah/Anna who was apparently second wife of John Sr. She is not mentioned in John Sr.'s will.

Caution: According to page 30 of "The Stoddard Family," [24] John Stodder/Stoddard was the first born of John and Hannah (maiden name unknown) Stodder, the first of the Stoddard family to settle in America (1638)." This sentence structure is confusing. Undoubtedly, it was John Sr. who was granted land and first to settle in America (1638). Church baptism records show John Jr. and other several other children of Tabitha and John Sr were baptized in Terling, Essex, England.

John Jr. was born Oct 30 1628 in Terling, Essex, so he was only 10 years old when John Sr. was granted land in Hingham in 1638. Hannah, wife of John Sr., is not mentioned in John Sr.'s will, nor is any other wife. Hannah, wife of John Sr. is probably a nickname for Tabitha. John Jr., son of John and Tabitha, married Hannah Bryant, and they had a daughter Hannah Stodder/ Stoddard as well as as a daughter Tabitha Stoddard and a son named John Stoddard (born 1668). John Sr. was the first to settle in America, granted property in Bare Cove (now Hingham) Massachusetts in 1638. He emigrated with wife and children.
