About John T. Nixon, U.S. Congress
US Congressman. He graduated from Princeton College in 1841, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1845 and commenced the practice of law in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He was a member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly, (1848-50) and elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses, serving (1859-63). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was appointed United States Judge for the District of New Jersey, in 1870, serving until his death at age 69.
