About John B Tacke

COTTONWOOD -- A memorial Mass will be celebrated for John B. (Jack) Tacke, a lawyer and Cottonwood native, at 2 p.m. Feb. 27, 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cottonwood. The Rev. Andrew Schumacher will be the celebrant. A private burial will precede the Mass at the Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery.

Tacke, a lawyer specializing in government contract law, died of cancer Jan. 28 at the Hospice of Northern Virginia in Alexandria. He was 64.

He had been a partner for the past 30 years in the firm of Hudson, Greyke, Koehler and Tacke in Alexandria.

He was born Dec. 4, 1934, to E.H. (Jack) and Merline Untereiner Tacke in Cottonwood. As a young man he was a student at Mt. Angel College, Oregon, St. Edward's Seminary in Seattle and Gregorian University at the Vatican.

After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard for two years, he attended Gonzaga University in Spokane. In the early 1960s he moved to Washington, D.C., and earned a law degree from George Washington University. He worked on Capitol Hill as a lobbyist and campaign manager.

He enjoyed golfing and traveling and was a member of the Washington Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include a son, John Tacke of Edgewood, Wash.; two daughters, Katherine Morse of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Mary Goodman of Seattle; two brothers, Mark Tacke of Cottonwood and Tom Tacke of Seattle; a sister, Sr. Mary Paule Tacke of Transkei, South Africa; and six grandchildren.
