John Vinal MAY have been born about 1636 in Biddenton, Kent, England, but his brother Stephen made an acccount of their arrival in Scituate. "Martha was the oldest, Stephen was born in the middle of December of 1630, and John was two or three years younger". This information came directly from Ann to Stephen. John is the son of Stephen and the "Widow Ann Vinal". His father, either passing just before or on voyage over, left Ann and her 3 children coming to the New World alone in 1636. She was one of the few women who were land holders soon after arrival, so the family may have been with some financial means. She was the only woman to be considered a founder of Scituate, Plymouth Colony. Her first home was built in 1637, which Stephen later resided at upon Ann's passing in 1664, The family name can be found spelled "Vinall" in records, and it varies even within this branch of the family.

On February 2, 1664, John married Elizabeth Baker, of Hingham, MA. Their children:

John Vinal, Esquire 1665 - 1728, married Mary Woodworth, POSSIBLY April 5, 1704

Elizabeth Vinal/ll 1667 - ____, married Joseph White, Sr., POSSIBLY 1699

Hannah Vinal Sept 30, 1669 - ____

Jacob Vinal Sept 2, 1670 - _____, Married Mary Cudworth

Grace Vinal 1672 - 1758, married Ebenezer Mott, Feb 19, 1700 in Scituate, MA.

He lived on the corner of Kent Street and Meeting House Lane. He was freeman in 1658; worked as constable and hi-way surveyor.

Ann Vinal holds the distinction of being the only female to be considered one of the founders of Scituate, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts.

Little is known about Ann's life before arriving in Scituate in 1636. She arrived in town as the widow of an unknown husband and the mother of three children born in England -- Martha, Stephen, and John.
