About John Walker
Biography
Much speculation but no documentation as to his birth and parentage.
About 1770 John Walker married Kati (Cherokee daughter of Nancy Ward). They were the parents of two children, Jennie and John Walker (Jr.).
The Journal of Major John Norton states that Kati [Kingfisher] was a widow when she married Ellis Harlan, c1778, so John Walker (Sr.) must have died before then. [1] [2]
Research Notes:
- No records have been found to connect him with any of the Walker families in Virginia at that time.
- He was not known as “Major”
- He was white, not Cherokee
- Numerous sources say without evidence
- - - Birth: 1752 Cherokee, North Carolina
- - -Death: 1774 Bradley, Tennessee

Insourced comment…
Virtually nothing is known of the first John Walker other than the fact that he was a white man who parented two children, John Walker and Jennie Walker with Kati, the daughter of Nancy Ward. No records have been found to connect him with any of the Walker families in Virginia at that time. He was not known as “Major” and he was white, not Cherokee.
