Capt. John Warren III served during the American Revolution Service started: Unit(s): Service ended: Biography John Warren Jr. (1752-1821), married 1773 Elizabeth Perkins, daughter of Rees Perkins and Elizabeth Colson. She was baptized 22 Oct 1761 at Prince Frederick Parish Winyah, Craven County, South Carolina. John was baptized 29 May 1753 in the same parish. He served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Elias DuBose' Company of Volunteer Militia from St David's Parish in 1776. He later also served in the 6th Company, Col. John Thomas' Regiment, Georgia Militia, February 1778, for which he received land in Liberty County, Georgia. They moved to Liberty County, Georgia, by 1783, were he was a deacon at the Midway Church 1791-1810, and Justice of the Peace in December, 1791.
The Governor of Georgia issued a passport for John Warren to travel through the Creek Nation of Indians January 5, 1810 with his wife and two children and seven Negroes. Others traveling with the family was John's daughter Jane along with her husband Fleming Tynes Jr. two children and one Negro.
In the month of February there were three more children of John and Elizabeth's who followed their father to the Mississippi Territory. Sons John and Samuel and daughter Elizabeth who married Sampson Edward Ball all came from Liberty County, Georgia.
In 1810, they moved to Sandy Hook, Mississippi, on the Pearl River just opposite the point where the Louisiana State Line meets the river.
There John and Elizabeth spent her final days. Before Elizabeth Perkins Warrens death she requested that she be buried in her garden. Hers was the first grave .
"This garden spot has become the Old Warren Cemetery. The many oaks, holly, and numerous other beautiful trees that surround this old homesite and cemetery make it so peaceful that it is akin to being sacred." The Children of John and Elizabeth were:

Daniel Rees (1793-1841) Martha Jane Warren (1796-1875) who married William Milton Rankin After Elizabeth's death, John married 28 Jun 1816 Sarah Ann Clapp Lott, widow of Arthur K Lott, killed by Indians 1812 at Warriors Stand, Macon County, Alabama, who settled Lott's Bluff (now Columbia, Mississippi.)
Cemetery Headstone: #69 (pg 514) John Warren, 18 Dec 1752 - 22 May 1821; erected by Mrs. Martha Rankin; metal plaque on stone reads: Revolutionary Soldier 1775 - 1783, placed by Catherine Ard Chapter, DAR. Addendum: Warren Cemetery p. 514, #69. According to History of Marion County Mississippi (1976), p 81, a memorial service was conducted in June 1969 by the Catherine Ard Chapter of the DAR, marking the grave of John Warren with a bronze plaque.
