The following was compiled years ago by John Wash's great-granddaughter, Rosa Wash. b. Feb. 16, 1878, daughter of George Archibald Fields Wash and Beersheba Frances Curry.

"Family record of John Wash, Sr., the Revolutionary Soldier, copied from Bible of John Wash, Jr.'
John Wash, Sr., the Revolutionary Soldier, was born Dec. 23, 1751, died March 16, 1839 in Lewis County, Missouri. Buried on the farm of his grandson, Phillip Thomas Wash, near Maywood, Missouri. His wife, Nachy Gatewood Wash was born (no date given); died May 25, 1818, Cumberland County, Kentucky

"John Wash, Sr. first enlisted as a volunteer under Colonel Sherwood Rugy in the Continental Army at Augusta, Georgia. He then acted as issuing commissary in the Florida Expedition under Gen. John Huston for two months. In Dec. of the next year, while living in Henry County, Virginia, he volunteered under Capt. Richard Graham and Col. Frederick Hambright and served until March 1780. Soon after this, he substituted as Lieutenant in an expedition to Lanneau's Ferry, where he joined the North Carolina Militia under Gen. Caswell, but finding no Lieutenant vacancy at the camp, was directed to Gen. Rutherford at Salisbury. His tour expired after three months."

"One party, that came this year into what is now Union Township, was composed of John G. Nunn, grandfather John Wash (a revolutionary soldier), his son, John Wash, Jr., Thomas Creacy, John A. Gerhart and his father Peter Gerhart and Elisha Whitlow and their families; a Mr. William stopped in Marion. All were from Cumberland County, Kentucky. The party reached Lewis County in the month of October (1829) (crossing) the S. Fabius, a little northwest of Maywood...."
