John William Keane was born in 1863, in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, his father, Thomas John Keane, was 27 and his mother, Margaret McSweeney, was 31. He married Louisa May Caldecoat on 18 February 1887, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He died in 1924, in Newport, Victoria, Australia, at the age of 61.
