Disambiguation

Although some sites show that Elizabeth Tayloe (daughter of William) was married to John Wormley (died 1726) that is incorrect; his wife was Elizabeth Ring, the daughter of Joseph Ring (c1641-1703) and Sarah Berkley (1667-1740) Their son John was married to an Ann Taylor, so that could be where the mistake came from.

"John Wormeley married the prominent heiress Elizabeth Ring of Ringfield Plantation in York County." John also had to oversee "his wife's extensive properties at Ringfield and Ring's Quarter in King and Queen County."

• !15 Apr 1725: John owned lands in Middlesex, Gloucester, King William, York and Caroline Counties. His will is dated 15 Apr 1725, and names his wife, Elizabeth, and 6 children.
• His tombstone is written in Latin: d. VII d Fe by MDCC XXVI Ann Aet XXXVII (Died Feb. 7, 1726 aged 37). “John Wormley dyed Feb y' 7. & was buried Feb'y y° 1 1 1726.”

• To my dear and loveing sister Judith Page all that tract of land in Richmond County commonly known by the name of Nanzantico. Also all the Negroes young and old together with all other things or chattels that shall be on the said tract at the time of my decease.
• To my tender and most honoured mother all the land that I shall dye seized of possessed of in Middlesex County during her naturall life. Also the use of those slaves following - Randall, Robin cooper, Frank cooper, Margt. Capt., Margary Capt, Harry Charles at the Hog house, old Ralph and his wife at the new quarter and the girl Jenny about the house and the cook wench Frank.
• To my brother John Wormeley all the rest of my land not before disposed of, also the land before bequeathed my mother after her decease.
• To the use of the parrish of Christ Church fifty pounds Sterl. to be disposed of by the minister of the said parrish in plate for the use of the said parrish.
• To my brother John Wormeley all the rest and residue of my estate not otherwise disposed of in this my will.

«i»Genealogy of Virginia Families«/i»: He inherited "Rosegill" upon the death of his brother, Ralph & lived quieltly there until his death. In 1713 he married Elizabeth (surname unknown.) He left his widow one half of his real estate, his daughter Elizabeth 800 pounds and to each of the others: Judith, Sarah and Agatha, 500 pounds to be paid at the age of twenty -one or when married. Also designated that his son John should be sent to England to be educated and to be maintained from the estate he left to son Ralph plus an annuity thereafter... John Wormeley died greatly indebted, but eventually from the profits of the estate, and the sale of some lands, all the legacies and debts were paid.

9. John1* Wormeley, of "Rosegill" (which he inherited at his brother's death), was born in 1689 and died Feb. 7, 1726. John Wormeley married the prominent heiress Elizabeth Ring of Ringfield Plantation in York County.

He was at school in England at the time of his father's death, but returned to
Virginia soon afterwards. Alone, of all his family during the colonial period, he held no public office and his epitaph states that he desired none. He married, about 1713, Elizabeth (whose surname has not yet
been ascertained). The will of John Wormeley, which was dated April 15, 1725, does not appear to have been preserved, but its substance has been contained in an Act of Assembly passed in November, 1738. In this act it is stated that John Wormeley, Esq., deceased, was possessed of a very valuable estate in lands in the counties of Middlesex, Gloucester, King William and York, of a parcel of land in Caroline containing one thousand acres and the reversion of two thousand acres in King George.

By his will, among other things, he devised to his wife, Elizabeth, one-half of his real estate during her widowhood;
gave to his daughter, Elizabeth, 800 pounds sterling and to each of his
daughters, Judith, Sarah and Agatha, 500 pounds sterling, to be paid
at the age of twenty-one or married, and also that his son, John, should
be sent to England and there educated and maintained out of the estate
given his son, Ralph, until he was twenty-one, and after the said
John reached the age of twenty-one, he devised him an annuity of one
hundred pounds sterling for fifteen years, also to be paid out of the estate
left to Ralph.
