Virginia.

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE FROM CATHI CLORE FROST TO SANDRA ELKINS JUHL: cathiclorefrost@comcast.net to sljuhl1234@yahoo.com

E-MAIL: Sat, 1 Mar 2008 09:31:38 -0800; TOPIC: Yager Genealogy;

Hi Sandy,

Thanks for thinking of me. Let me fill you in on the family of Mary Yager, wife of Levi Clore.

First, her name was not Mary Polly Yager - Polly is a nickname for Mary so it would be ok to list her as Mary "Polly" Yager.

Mary Yager's parents were not from the Germanna Colony Yager family as I will explain below. However as they were named John Yager and Mary as were John Yager, son of Adam Yager of the Germanna Colony family, and his wife. Both John Yager's also had fathers named Adam Yager and mothers named Susanna to further complicate the matter. It's enough to make your head spin!

Did you know that I am working on the Yager family right now for the Germanna Foundation? In a couple of weeks I am making a research trip to Virginia and will stay with Yager descendant Betty Johnson. Betty had done a TON of research on the Yagers and has got the two Yager families sorted out along with Jan Creek and they are helping me. At that time there were 6 John Yagers living in the area!

The 6 John Yagers:

1. John Yager (called "Blind") born 1732, son of the Germanna Adam

2. John Yager (called "Pineywoods" or "of the Piney Woods") born about 1730, son of Adam Yager of Woodstock

3. John Yager born 1750, son of Michael, son of Germanna Adam

4. John Henry Yager born about 1760, son of Pineywoods John

5. John W. Yager (middle name possibly Wilhoit) born 1773, son of Blind John

6. John Adam Yager born about 1765-1770, son of Adam Jr, son of Germanna Adam

There was also a seventh John - John H. Yager, son of the John Henry Yager #4 above, that was born about 1801-1810 but he is a little later.

The Yager family of Woodstock, Virginia (in the Shenandoah Valley) have no known ancestry in common with the Germanna Yager family. That does not mean that there is not a connection, in fact several of us believe that there is based on later interaction, we just don't know the who, what, when, where, how of it.

Of the John Yagers, Betty writes to me that, "These John Yagers got so intertwined in the minds of earlier researchers, that it's somewhat tricky to separate and indentify them by parentage, wives, etc. [Arthur Leslie] Keith was deplorable, [B.C.] Holtzclaw avoided the issue, and [Claude L.] Yowell mixed them up with an absolute flourish! Subsequent folks who did books just confused things further."

Hannah Yager, daughter of Michael, son of Germanna Adam, married #4 above John Henry Yager, son of Pineywoods John, son of Adam of Woodstock which only further confuses the matter.

The will you sent was the will of Adam Yager, Jr, son of Germanna Adam. Adam Jr. married Juriah Berry and had children Elisha Yager, Nathaniel Yager, John Adam Yager, Philemon Yager, Jemima Yager, James Yager, Jeremiah Yager, Joel Yager and Elijah Yager.

Let me know if you are interested and I will send more info about each John Yager to help you identifiy them! Cathi" [Transcribed 01 March 2008, SLJuhl, Compiler, dau. of Joyce Lorraine Clore Elkins of Parke County, Indiana and direct descendant.)

(VDF) = Mrs. V.D.
