About John B Zook
- John's dad had a feed grinding mill at Allison Gap, run by a water wheel. One day John wanted to stop the grinder, and used his foot to kick the belt off. It got caught and though he managed to free himself, a leg was torn off and he died from bleeding before the physician reached his side. - On March 11, 1902, John B. Zook who lived about two mile s north of Allenville, Pa., while working in his grist mill, was in some way caught in a wheel, and so badly hurt that he died a few hours afterward. He was alone at the time of the accident, but had the necessary presence of mind to cut the belting that ran the machinery, thereby freeing himself. He then managed to get to a window and called his wife, who immediately came to aid him. The neighbors were then called and the unfortunate man taken to the house, but death soon ensued. He was buried on the 13th. His funeral was largely attended. He was a middle age man and leaves a wife and several children. "Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh," Matt. 24:44. (HoT Apr 1902)* Reference: RootsWeb's WorldConnect - SmartCopy: Aug 29 2017, 21:53:42 UTC
