About Jonah Marshall
The Civil War - by John Perry Alderman
Jonah Marshall was the son of Robert and Martha (Puckett) Marshall, born about 1833 and he married Mahala Jackson in 1857. He was mustered into Company G, 54th Virginia on Sept 16, 1861 at Dugspur, having volunteered for the company being organized by Capt. George Turman. He re-enlisted after the first year and was with the company almost to the end of the war, going through the battles about Chattanooga, the Atlanta campaign and finally the last-ditch effort in Tennessee in the last winter of the war. He returned to the county after the war and lived to an old age beyond Keno.
