About Jonas J Troyer

SUGARCREEK -- Jonas J. Troyer, 79, of Sugarcreek died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Union Hospital in Dover following an unexpected illness.

He was born July 4, 1934 in Tuscarawas County to the late John J. and Ada B. (Hostetler) Troyer.

He retired in 1994 from doing brick masonry and then was a dedicated volunteer for the Save & Serve Store in Millersburg. He was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and following his grandchildren to all of their sporting activities.

He is survived by his wife, the former Katie Beachy, whom he married June 14, 1959 and would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this June.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Bryan (Karla) Troyer and Bruce (Sally) Troyer, both of Sugarcreek; four grandchildren, Connor, Carson, Tara and Lindsay; two sisters, Mary (Wayne E.) Miller of Walnut Creek and Viola (Jake) Weaver of Sugarcreek; and three sisters-in-law, Mandy Troyer of Berlin, Leona Troyer of Sugarcreek and Karen Troyer of Winesburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Vernon, Marvin, Adin and Norman; and sister-in-law Fannie Troyer.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, with Pastor Don Hamsher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.

Memorials may be made to the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church or the Save & Serve in Millersburg.
