Jonathan Gates, b. 17 Dec 1703 in East Haddam, baptized in May 1704, settled in the Westchester section of the town of Colchester where he m. 16 July 1747, Susannah Olmstead. This may have been his second marriage . He died in Westchester, 1 June 1771, "at 10 o'clock at night." She died there, 4 Feb 1790.

She d. in Chatham, 13 Dec 1777, and was buried in Westchester. He m. 2nd, 25 Jan 1779, Anna Cone, b. 29 May 1755, daughter of Jonah and Elizabeth (Gates) Cone. Dr. Robert Usher d. in Chatham, 27 Mar 1820.

2. Deborah, b. July 1750, baptized 20 July 1750, m. 12 Dec 1771, Capt. Elijah Smith of Chatham as his 2nd wife. She d. 16 Mar 1773, and he m. 3rd, 1 Apr 1776, Lois Gates, b. 16 Sept 1756, daughter of Nehemiah and Fruin (Brainerd) Gates.
