About Jonathan Herrick

Biography Jonathan Herrick was the son of Henry Herrick, Jr. and Lydia Woodbury. He was born before 16 June 1672, a baptism date, in Beverly, Massachusetts.[1] On 28 October 1696, he married his first wife, Elizabeth Dodge, in Beverly.[2] Jonathan and Elizabeth had, at least, six children in this marriage before her death in Beverly on 13 March 1711/1712.[3] On 25 October 1713, he married Bethiah Conant, daughter of John Conant and Bethiah Mansfield, in Beverly.[4] Jonathan and Bethia had six children before Jonathan's death on 29 July 1724 in Concord, Massachusetts.[5] Jonathan is buried in the South Burying Place in Concord.[6]

“Jonathan, youngest child of Henry(2) and Lydia (Woodbury) Herrick, was baptized in 1672, died in 1724. I noted Joseph and Lucy's cases. In my notes, I have one son dying in 1725. There are several children related to his marriage with Elizabeth Dodge. I had only one annotated, Elizabeth. Middlesex Probate Case 11192: Intestate Administration names mentioned: Bethyah Herrick, Abraham Patch, Nathaniel Gott, William Wheeler, Samuel Chandler, Josiah Haywod. Page 5 Clearly states she was the wife of Timothy Spaulding of Westford Following Jonathan’s death. “The residue or two thirds within the township of Acton we set to Abraham Patch who married the second daughter of the deceased” Hannah (Herrick) Patch. “The residue of or two thirds within the township of Concord we set to Jonathan Patch who married Lidia Patch the third daughter of the deceased . . .” . “It appears by the acknowledgement of Edward Wheeler who married Eliabeth, the eldest daughter . . . ". On 21 June 1736, living children: Elizabeth (Herrick) Wheeler, Hannah (Herrick) Patch, Mary (Herrick) Jewett, Joseph Herrick, Bethiah Herrick, Lucy Herrick. The case opened in 1724 and last paper signed on 15 May 1746[8] In 1734, Middlesex Probate Case 11193 regards guardianship of of Joseph Herrick, in his16th year, Bethiah Herrick, in her 13th year. Guardianship is granted to John Darby of Concord, their uncle. Also mentioned Abraham Patch and Timothy Spaulding. [9] In 1734, Middlesex Probate Case 11194 regards guardianship of Lucy Herrick, in her eleventh year. Guardianship is granted to Lot Conant of Concord, her uncle. Also mentioned, Timothy Spaulding and Abraham Patch.[10]
