About Jonathan Hoar
Some confusion about Jonathan Hoar. Who were his parents? Who did he marry? Who were the parents of his wife, Mary Staples?
In the book 'A Record of Descendants of Hezekiah Hoar of Taunton, MA' by Norton Horr, 1907, there is an entry for Jonathan HOAR (b. abt 1695) which states that he married Mary STAPLES about 1732, who was the daughter of Joseph STAPLES and Ann MAKEPEACE.
Macomber genealogy says: Anna, daughter of William and Sarah (Holloway) Macomber, married Jonathan Hoar and had a daughter, Anna Hoar, who married Seth Hodges June 14, 1744. On Sept. 8, 1735, Jonathan Hoar had petitioned the court to appoint a guardian for his daughter, Anna, who had a claim on the estate of J. Macomber, through her mother.
Lived in Middleboro, Mass., next to Taunton, Mass. where he owned a farm. He later migrated with his children to New Salem, Mass.
Fought in the siege of Louisbourg during the French & Indian Wars. He is listed in town records as an "ensign" and gunner aboard one of his majesties ships in 1743.
