About Jonathan Ricketson, I
Jonathan Ricketson, Sr Jonathan and Abigail were married in 1710 without laying an "intention of marriage" before "The Meeting" for Approval. They were both "condemned" by the meeting for not laying their "intention of Marriage", and marrying otherwise on 8 July 1710 without approval from the Friends. For to enquire of Jonathan ricketson conerning his laying the Intention of his marriage before the Meeting. And they have spoken with him, do make report the to meeting that he saith he doth not intend to lay intention of marriage before the Monthly Meeting, but saith he thinks it no sin to be married otherwise. Occupation...Cordwainer (definition an ancient word for "Shoemaker", cobber, a person who makes shoes from cordovan leather. Jonathan was also a farmer and a yeoman(means free man land owner, deputy farmer, hard toil. "Forgiveness", Jonathan & Abigail, wrote the Meeting a letter, admitting & condeming "their own out-goings" of marriage in 1710 & counted themselves "justly denied", asking Friends & God's Forgivenness & Unity. The humble petition Granted and restored membership. 16 Nov 1724.
