A native of North Carolina he received the title of Colonal in the War of 1812. He was a member of the North Carolina legislature in 1808. The Abernathy and Farrar families of North Carolina, all of the Methodist religion, settled near Longtown beginning 1819. He was the leader of a group of Methodists to Perry County, Missouri in 1820 and was a founder of York Chapel Methodist Church in Perry County, Missouri 1821. He was elected a Judge in Perry County, Missouri sometime between 1826 and 1827. He was a neighbor of Rezin Bishop.
