About Jose D. Aspiras
Joe was Information Secretary under the administration of President Ferdinand E. Marcos from 1965 to 1969. He was congressman for La Union (second district) from 1969 to 1971. He was appointed Minister of Tourism by President Marcos, a position that he held until 1986. He was again congressman for La Union from 1987 to 1998. Before his death, he was the resident representative (with rank of ambassador) of the Taiwan-based Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO). He led the restoration of the Agoo Parish Church, which was built in the 16th century. In 1981, the church was elevated to the rank of Basilica Minore by Pope John Paul II.
