About Jose Roño

Jose Roño was a Filipino lawyer and politician. He served as Mayor of Calbayog, Samar from 1946 to 1950, his resignation, and again from 1953 to 1959, and finally from 1963 to 1967. He then served as Governor of Samar from 1967 to 1973, and again from 1995 to 2001. He also served as Secretary of Local Government and Community Development from January 1, 1973 to 1978, and then as Minister of Local Government and Community Development from 1978 to 1982, and finally as Minister of Local Government from 1982 to February 25, 1986. He represented Region VIII at the Interim Batasang Pambansa from June 12, 1978 to June 5, 1984, and then Samar at the Regular Batasang Pambansa from July 23, 1984 to March 25, 1986, before finally representing the first district of Samar at the House of Representatives of the Philippines from June 30, 1987 to June 30, 1992. He was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Philippines from June 30, 1981 to February 25, 1986.
