Joseph Blackman died in 1768 when Edith was five (5) years old Edith was born in 1763

The Blackmans of Sampson Co. by Jerome Tew He was born in 1725 and lived Until 1768 He might have been the son of Sarah (who raised him) not Elizabeth Goode Joseph lived and died in Duplin (now Sampson) County and most likely in the area of Newton Grove and Sampson County. Four children were listed in his will, they were; Joab Blackman, Josiah Blackman, Mary Blackman, and Ede Blackman. There may have been a fifth child It is believed he was only married once about 1754 to Elizabeth Lee and that he was still married to her at his death. Elizabeth probably died about 1800.
