iv. Joseph, born about 1647; freeman, May, 1668; married 1667, Mary, daughter of William Goodrich, of Wethersfield; died in Wethersfield, December 10, 1732, in the 85th year of his age.
His first wife was Mary Goodrich Butler, daughter of William Goodrich and Sarah Marvin Goodrich.
His second wife, married Mar 3,1706/7, was Mary Bushnell Miller Butler.
He was the son of Richard Butler and Elizabeth (Bigelow?) Butler of Hartford,CT.

Original Last Will & Testament of Joseph Butler. Abstract.
8 July 1725, I Joseph Butler of Wethersfield in the County of Hartford, Colony of Connecticut in New England, being grown into years but of sound disposing mind and memory, and am allowed to survive so many of my fellow mortals
My just debts and funeral expenses shall be first paid out of my movable or personal estate by my executrix herein after mentioned.
My sons Richard Butler & Gershom Butler, both now living, and my son Charles Butler, deceased, whatever my small estate will allow to each of them respectively.
The rest and residue of my housing and lands lying in Wethersfield or in Middletown within said County or elsewhere, not disposed of by deeds, to my three sons now living with me, Benjamin Butler, Joseph Butler, and Charles Butler, in the proportions following:
To my son Benjamin three seventh parts of the whole of my said housing and lands; Joseph and Charles to have the remaining four seventh parts equally between them.
To my daughter Mary Butler two third parts of all my movable or personal estate, goods & Chattles within & without doors, of what kind or nature soever.
My son Benjamin to pay her [Mary] the sum of 25 pounds in current money.
My sons Joseph & Charles shall pay her the sum of twenty pounds like money, each of them.
To my well beloved wife Mary all the rest of my movable or personal estate of what kind soever.
I appoint my wife my sole executrix of this my last will & testament.

Mrs. Dorothy Stevens made solemn oath that she witnessed the testator Joseph Butler sign seal publish pronounce & declare the same to be his last will & testament and that he was of sound mind, and the Rev. Mr. Timothy Stevens & Mr. Thomas Kimberly deceased did also sign or witness the same.
