"He first married Mary Rider. His second wife was Sarah Dillard (1862 - 1922.
Mr. Dillard enlisted in company G (1) 50th Virginia Regt June 15, 1861 for a period of 3 years by Capt. Dunn at Abington VA. He was in several battles in western Virginia (Kesselers Cross Lanes, Carnifex Ferry and the Kanawha Valley campaign). The company was reorganized May 1, 1962 and became Co. I (1) 63rd Virginia Regt. and they saw action in VA, TN, GA and NC. He was wounded in action Sept 20, 1863 at the Battle of Chicamauga, (right arm shot off), furloughed 60 days and returned to duty Aug.31, 1864 (sources: service records, 50th VA Inf by John Chapala, 63rd VA Regt by Jeff Weaver). After the War (about 1870) he moved his family from Wytheville, VA to Kanawha County (Laural Fork), WV. Mr. Dillard was a farmer and lived to be 87 years, 11 months and 19 days old."
