Joseph Gorton, son of Samuel Gorton III and Freelove (Mason) Gorton of Warwick Rhode Island, was born 1729, in Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts. His father, Samuel Gorton III, had his first four children born in Warwick, R.I., and Joseph and the last four children were all born in Swansea, Massachusetts.
