He is mentioned in Chelmsford records as one of the town "Committee" until 1720, perhaps later. His descendants seem to have remained generally in, or in the vicinity of Chelmsford and Westford. While the descendants of the second Solomon have emigrated to New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and later to New York and the far West, so that their names are not found on book or gravestone, the Westford town books show pretty full lists of Joseph's descendants for three or four generations. The names of Joseph and Jonathan Keyes are to be seen in numbers on ancient gravestones, in the old graveyard, while a modern tomb bears the names of Keyes and Fletcher, with which family this branch of Keyes have often intermarried.
