About Joseph Malott

From "Families of Peter Malott" by William Marlatt. Summary:

Born c1759 in Frederick County (Present Washington County), Province of Maryland the son of Peter Malott and Sarah Tracy.

Married firstly to Katherine or Katie South (1750/1775 - 1805) c22 April 1789 in Madison County, Kentucky, and had upwards to seven children: John South Malott (b. 1790), James and Isaac (b. between 1790 and 1792), Sarah (b. 1792), Mary Jane or Polly (b. 1794), William Buck Malott (b. 1796), and Edna (b. 1798).

Married secondly to Mary or Polly White (1780/1784 - May 1837) on 8 March 1805 in Madison County, Kentucky, and had upwards to nine children: Joseph (b. c1805), Elizabeth (b. c1807), Mary (b. c1809), Thomas (b. 9 Jan 1810), Sally Ann (b. c1812), Lucinda (b. 1814), Hardin (b. c1816), and Hiram (b. 4 September 1819).

Supposed third marriage to Katie Smith in Kentucky doesn't make chronological sense, since second wife Mary outlasted him. (Bigamy is possible, but otherwise undocumented.)

Died in 1833 in Clay County, Missouri.

This indicates that in the household there were 3 males 0-10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 45 or older, 1 female 0-10, and 1 female 26-45. Based on this Joseph was b. in or before 1775. If Hannah was the female aged 26-45, this would indicate that she was born 1775-1794. This is inconsistent with the references that show her b. 22 Aug 1765.
  • A Joseph Molott (100010-201??) is shown in the 1820 U.S. Census in Huntington Twp., Brown Co., OH. (ref. 128). This indicates that there was 1 male 0-10, 1 male 26-45, 2 females 0-10 and 1 female 16-26. The Joseph would have been born 1775-1796.
