Joseph Henry Martin

Birth: Feb. 14, 1822 Philadelphia County Pennsylvania, USA Death: Dec., 1899 Galena Cherokee County Kansas, USA

Joseph was born in Philadelpha, Pennsylvania on 14th of February, 1822. His parents had just sailed from England and arrived in Philadelphia in October of 1821, his mother was pregnant with him at the time. After he was born the family migrated to the Holmes, Crawford County, Ohio area.

He married Adaline Shockey in April of 1843, in Crawford County, Ohio. He and Adaline migrated south to Wayne County, Iowa around 1853, where they remained until around 1871. They then continued their move south to the Independence, Montgomery County, Kansas area. In June of 1880 they were in La Fayette, Chautauqua County, Kansas.

After Adaline's death in July of 1880, Joseph moved to the Galena, Cherokee County, Kansas area. Several of his children were living there at the time. He died there in December of 1899 and was returned to Chautuaqua County to be buried next to Adaline.

Documentation records his birth as 1822 in Philadelphia, PA.
